Requirements

For Opera Studio Auditions:

• Three contrasting selections – one aria from opera or operetta, one art song, and one additional aria or art song, performed from memory.  Please include at least one in German, if you are prepared to do so.
• If auditioning live, please bring a copy of the music for the accompanist.

For Musical Theater Studio Auditions:

Singers:

• Two contrasting selections – one up-tempo and one ballad, performed from memory.  No 16 bar cuts, please.  (You may offer a third selection if you wish.  This is optional.)
• If auditioning live, please bring a copy of the music for the accompanist.
• One monologue, under two minutes
• If you also dance, you may include a short dance routine or excerpt, to recorded music.  (This is optional.)

Dancers:

• Selections in two different dance categories, each one about two minutes in length – choose from Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, Ballet or Hip Hop.  (If you wish, you may include an additional selection.  This is optional.)  Please include a short clip showing your technique in any dance video.
• The music for your selections may be in any style (such as Musical, Jazz, Pop, Classical or Hip Hop), and the musical style should be different for each selection.
• One song of your choice, performed from memory – this may be a song or a song and dance routine or excerpt (but this would not count as one of the other required dance selections).  For dancers who do not usually sing, a 16 bar cut is acceptable.  (Even if you do not consider yourself much of a singer, we would like to hear you to understand your starting point for the voice lessons offered at MTB.  If you do not wish to receive voice training, then MTB is probably not for you.)
• If auditioning live, please bring a copy of the song music for the accompanist.
• You may also perform one monologue, under two minutes.  (This is optional.)

For students who wish to study both Opera and Musical Theater:

        Please combine the requirements for both, but you may omit the

        requirement for a third classical piece.
