Location

The campus of MTB is the community of Oberaudorf, Germany, a charming village of 4,000 people located southeast of Munich in the Bavarian Alps close to the border of Germany and Austria.  It is a safe, quiet village frequented in the summer by vacationing Germans who come to Oberaudorf for the health benefits of its exceptionally clean air and to hike its mountain trails.

Teaching, rehearsal and performance venues are scattered throughout Oberaudorf, and virtually anything in the village is walking distance from any other place in the village, much like distances on a large university campus.  Students experience the life of a small German town, often getting to know some of the local residents and shopkeepers.

Oberaudorf has several wonderful restaurants, bakery cafés and a variety of shops, as well as pharmacies and doctors’ offices to serve you if you should need them.  If you choose to stay in town on the weekends, you may enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, bike riding or sunbathing and swimming at the lake, or perhaps some typical Bavarian cultural events.  Other great local options are attending performances at the summer opera and music festival in nearby Erl, Austria, the Tiroler Festspiele Erl.  If you’d rather get away and explore Germany, Austria or Italy on the weekends, there are a number of good options for inexpensive day trips, including a very short train ride for great shopping in the city of Rosenheim, and many interesting options for overnight trips.  MTB staff will be glad to help you with travel ideas.
