The MTB Experience

A typical American summer training program would not normally operate a musical theater intensive and an opera intensive side by side.  In Germany, however, the term Musiktheater translates to the genre of opera, operetta and musical theater.  While these art forms can be very different in their approach and presentation, their combination within Musiktheater recognizes that we are all essentially singing stage actors.  We all need training in voice, acting, dance, movement and song interpretation.  With this unique German influence at its core, Music Theater Bavaria offers the combination of a culturally enriching study abroad experience and a professional training program in which students can choose an emphasis in either opera or musical theater.

At Music Theater Bavaria you’ll spend the month of July working with a focused group of talented students and excellent, experienced teaching faculty who are committed to making the maximum possible impact on your performance readiness in a period of four weeks.  You’ll study voice, acting, dance, movement, the business of the singer-actor and much more, as you experience life in the beautiful Bavarian Alps.

Students choose to enroll in either The Opera Studio or The Musical Theater Studio, with the two studios sometimes working separately in classes, workshops, master classes and private lessons tailored to their specific interests.  The entire group comes together often for classes on topics of common interest, and also for meals and social activities.  (Students who are interested in both opera and musical theater may also opt for a "crossover" schedule.)  Click the tabs for The Opera Studio and The Musical Theater Studio for a detailed description of our outstanding curriculum, and see the FAQ for a description of performance opportunities.
