Scholarship Assistance at Music Theater Bavaria

Scholarship assistance to attend Music Theater Bavaria may be available. Because availability of scholarship funds depends entirely on the generosity of our donors, the pool of funds is different each year.

Need-based scholarships will be awarded in increments of $500.00.  Although many applicants ask for a ballpark estimate of what a usual scholarship might be, that is difficult to estimate in advance of completing our annual scholarship fundraising campaign.  It may be helpful to know that it is rare for scholarships to be awarded in an amount greater than a third of tuition.

Please read the section about personal fundraising below, to understand some ways you can effectively raise funds for studying at MTB!

You may also wish to speak with your college or university about whether you can arrange independent study credit for study at MTB, and therefore possibly be eligible for financial aid from your school.

Scholarship applications will not be considered until all required income tax forms/documents are received.  Most scholarship awards will be made by March 2012, but may be made earlier to earlier applicants.  If you are applying later, please inquire about whether it is still possible to apply for scholarship assistance.

How scholarship recipients are selected

The following are the general guidelines followed by the Scholarship Committee when considering financial assistance:

1) Music Theater Bavaria is non-discriminatory as to sex, race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin, or any other protected classification under applicable law, in the administration of its scholarship program.

2)  Consideration for financial help is need-based.  Among applicants demonstrating need, consideration may be based upon one’s degree of talent, uniqueness of abilities, preparedness for study in the MTB program and/or degree of financial need.

3)  All scholarship applicants are required to submit financial aid forms which will include current information on the applicant and the applicant’s family.  The materials requested may include copies of tax forms and other related materials.

4)  In most instances persons receiving financial aid will be asked to be of assistance in certain areas of operating the program.  Any work done while attending the program will normally not interfere with the recipient’s study.

5)  Persons awarded financial assistance may be asked to prepare specific musical or dance selections for use during the program.

6)  Priority is given to assisting applicants for the full, 4 week program.

Build or supplement your own scholarship fund - you can afford MTB!

Music Theater Bavaria is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and may accept tax-deductible donations for scholarships – in fact, that is how we raise all funds that we may have available for scholarships.  We can accept donations that are intended specifically to benefit YOU!  This applies to all students, whether or not you have applied for or received one of our MTB need-based scholarships.

This can be very helpful as you try to raise money on your own to fund your MTB study.  While you might normally hesitate to ask relatives or family friends to help pay your tuition, you have the opportunity to ask people if they would consider making tax-deductible donations to MTB, 100% of which will be applied to your tuition account.  (The only people who cannot make tax-deductible donations are your immediate family members, such as your parents or another relative who claims you as a tax dependent.)

Performing artists should be comfortable with marketing themselves, so if you need to raise funds, be creative!  Some students have held benefit concerts or events, and some have raised thousands by deciding to boldly, actively seek donations from individuals, businesses, organizations and clubs.  Some have used social media to reach a wide network.  We would be happy to supply you with fundraising flyers and other materials to help you raise the funds you need.
